More than 500 poor eye patients have received cost-free cataract operation with implantation of artificial lens at a week-long free eye camp held from Friday, January 14, to January 31, 2020 in Kaunia Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur district.
Bangladesh chapter of UK-based voluntary organisation Al-Basheer International Foundation under the management of Al-Noor Eye Hospital has provided free treatments to eye ailments and conducting cataract surgeries and implanting artificial lenses in the camp.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Md Asib Ahsan inaugurated the week-long free eye camp in a function held on Kaunia Upazila Health Complex premises on Friday as the chief guest.
With Kaunia upazila nirbahi officer Ulfat Ara Begum in the
chair, superintendent of police Biplob Kumar Saker, civil surgeon Hirombo Kumar
Roy, Kaunia Upazila Health and Family Planning officer Mir Hossain and
principal of Kaunia Degree College Musa Ahmmed attended the function as special
Director general of Bangladesh region of Al-Basheer
International Foundation Ahmed Taher Hamid Ali, its medical director Md Abu
Sayeed, and human resources manager Nuruzzaman Khoshnabeesh were present.
The eye specialists and surgeons of Albasar Foundation have selected the eye patients who required cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses, besides giving away cost-free treatments to other eye patients who do not need surgery or lens implantation.
The selected patients for the operation were kept at Kaunia Upazila Health Complex and given foods and residential facilities. Their cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses took place over the next six days free of costs.
As many as 4050 patients with different eye diseases
received the free services of this eye camp, while a total of 1516 glasses and
6403 units of medicines have been distributed during the event.
The chief guest lauded the initiative of Al-Basar International Foundation and Al-Noor Eye Hospital to provide quality treatments to eye patients and conduct cataract surgeries and implantation of artificial lenses in the camp.-->
