Al Basar International Foundation- a Non-Profit Organization- runs several eye hospitals in Bangladesh including Al Noor Eye Hospital, Lalmatia, Dhaka (Est. 1993); Makkah Eye Hospital, Uttara, Dhaka (Est. 2009); Makkah Eye Hospital, Rajshahi (Est. 2011) and Makkah Eye Hospital, Tangail (Est. 2014). Several more eye hospitals are uderway to be established.
Al Basar International Foundation also provides eye healthcare services through cost-free-eye-camps, sometimes called “Al-Basar Caravans”.
159 healthcare professionals along with administrative and support staff work at these facilities across the country and every day around 1400 patients now visit these hospitals. All of these facilities have in-patient and out-patients services. Each center has experienced clinical staffs, such as Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Opticians, Medical officers, Nurses, Pharmacists/Medical Technicians, Counselors/ Service promoters.
In these Hospitals, comprehensive eye care services are provided with modern equipment and diagnostic tools. Clinical and laboratory tests are also conducted for eye disease identification and prevention. Patients are then consulted by experienced ophthalmologists. Cataract, refractive error, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and conjunctivitis are regularly treated at these hospitals.
